2010 -5 Burns Clinic Overhaul Print E-mail
Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 2 - Centre for Thermal  Injuries and Plastic Surgeries

We were approached to help the central point in Ukraine for treating burns victims, many of them young children. It was explained to the KLC by friends at the clinic that for too long , their second operating theatre was not even in service as it had no ventilation system and was in disrepair. This meant the amount of patients that could be seen, often with horrific injuries was reduced, their suffering increased and grave results in serious patients health declining with increased waiting times.

On top of that, inadequate facilities in the main operating theatre meant that burns victims in the most distress did not have the stable environment suited to improving their chances of survival and recovery. Shocked by this ongoing situation, Kyiv Lions club worked with the clinic to find the most cost effective solution to properly upgrading the facilities. After much work with KLC, the clinic and consultants working for free (from INS) a four stage solution was devised. The overall cost is approx  1.2 million grivena, and the first stage to get the second operating theatre working costs 403 258 uah is now approved by KLC members to proceed. We are now searching for other sources of funding and partners to complete stages 2-4. 2010-4 Child Rescue Centre Print E-mail

International Charity Organisation  Child Rescue Centre

In the Center for Social-Psychological Rehabilitation, children rescued from the streets receive temporary refuge, receive meals, are taught hygiene, receive psychological, educational, legal  information and medical help which is directed towards their social rehabilitation and personal development.

There are two Centers for social-psychological help:Kyiv, Teremkivska Str., 9 and Village Moshne, Cherkassy Region.

The organisation does outstanding work but the Kiev Centre is besieged with problems where the centre is not properly insulated, water penetrates the building and there is mold. The solution is to install façade insulation to the building and a ventilation system to eradicate the fungus, and allow the kids at the centre not to have to wear coats all winter indoors. We have partnered with IWICK to ensure these improvements can take place. Under the co-operation IWICK have donated 70 000 uah and Kyiv Lions club 93,472 uah .

Kyiv Lions would also like to thank Gala Radio and DJ Pasha for raising 41000 uah of the 93 472 through their Michael Jackson Tribute concert and afterparty at D.Lux  on June 24th 2010.
