Go Ireland !!! Today we take our hats off to spirited Irish amongst us, who in May gathered their efforts on EU day on the Kreshatik in Kyiv, celebrated being Irish, taught people to drink Guiness and raised money for the Kyiv Lions in the process. A magnificent 35 850 uah was raised. We applaud this emerald effort and especially Ross McMahon (KLC), Seamus Holmes, Huber Trade, Andrey Ushenko at Diageo, Volodymyr Sai and the Irish Consulate

Kyiv Lions Club raises approximately $50,000 at its 15th Burns Night charity celebration

bn20101

The 15th anniversary ‘Burns Night’ was held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at ACCO International and gathered over 600 guests and sponsors. All those invited were given the opportunity to help raise money for the many worthy charity projects that the KLC supports, whilst enjoying a very relaxed atmosphere of celebration. This year the event raised approximately $50,000.

The entertainment program hosted by DJ Pasha was a great success. Guests enjoyed the performances by Ukrainian and international stars including: Kishe, Para Normalnyh, top bagpiper Roderick Deans, Scottish bagpipe rock band of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Scottish martial arts troupe the Clann and Britain’s top Beatles tribute band the Upbeat Beatles.

The auctions and lotteries proved particularly attractive with prizes such as trips to Paris, London and Las Vegas provided by Burns Night sponsors. Another example was the ‘Sounds of Music’ lottery, exclusively prepared by DJ Pasha and presented to the happy winner with a unique Set of Michael Jackson Memorabilia and 6 VIP tickets for a Slava Vakarchuk show.

Guests very much appreciated the fashion show of Ukrainian designer Elena Golets – which demonstrated the latest trends in evening dress design. Finally, everyone enjoyed the haggis, the national dish of Scotland, memorialised by the national poet Robert Burns.

The success of the KLC and Burns Night would not be possible without the support of many generous sponsors including: Johnnie Walker, Ukrainian International Airlines, the Hyatt Regency Kyiv Hotel and many others. Burns Night is organised so that the costs of the event are covered by sponsorship and ticket sales, which enable the profits to be directed to verifiable charity projects in line with International Lions Club regulations.

‘Burns Night is the party where you get the chance to make a big difference, meet the right people and have an unforgettable time. Definitely not one to be missed’, noted Dave Young, KLC president 2010.
